Earth and Sky 5
Acrylic, paper and fabric collage, goauche, and color pencil on gallery stretched canvas.
The painting interprets the ever changing colors in the sky and land throughout the day, and the close up details and colors I see on daily walks in my neighborhood. I paint on raw canvas, as I prefer the texture and natural tone, coaxing the paint to run and drip in places to capture the feeling of changing skies, in cloud, mist, and drizzle. The paper elements add spots of color and close up detail that bring to mind flowers and flashes of color seen through the undergrowth of the forest.
This piece blends paper, fabric and goauche at the horizon line merging the elements and extending the photos to create new painted elements. The earth and sky areas are built up with multiple washes of color to give a great sense of depth and complexity.
